I found Big Chill appliances from a site called Christy’s Modern Links and boy am I glad that I found these. Sporting a retro appearance, these appliances have the amenities of contemporary appliances with the 50′s style. They can be ordered through Big Chill or find a dealer in your area.

The appliances have been featured in many celebrity homes such as Martha Stewart and Drew Barrymore and look beautiful! Make sure to view Big Chill’s Kitchen Gallery. The price of these are steep, but if you can purchase one at a price tag of $2,500 … go for it!

And according to their website, they will soon be offering stoves but no photos of those yet.

Shown above is a custom wedding invitation that is in progress. I love the color combinations that the couple have chosen and the concept came together really well. I love the way that this mock-up has turned out and I hope the couple thinks so too!

The folks over at Underware have a nice informational site called Type Workshop which explains and shows examples of typography basics.

The site has quite a bit of information so don’t leave right after browsing the Type Basics section, make sure to read Background Information and Browse (these links are located at the very bottom of the site).

The workshops are mostly available to students and they list the ones upcoming on the home page, but most importantly do not skip the archive. This is where all of the eye candy resides on the site.

Rubber Ducks to save the day

If you see a lonely little rubber duck swimming along somewhere, pick it up! NASA scientists have dropped 90 rubber ducks into holes of a glacier in an effort to understand why glaciers speed up during summer months. The ducks are attached to a football-sized probe and have an email address and messaging prompt for anyone who discovers one! If the duck is discolored, do look at it, the yellow tends to fade over time as has happened in previous experiments.

Right now it’s not understood what causes the glaciers themselves to surge in the summer.” The rubber ducks will help to tackle this problem by carrying a probe with them so their progress can be tracked via GPS. The football sized probe will also relay information about the glacier’s innards as the rubber ducks flow with the ice into the sea.

The Jakobshavn Glacier in this study is most known for creating the iceberg sinking the Titanic, yikes.

As a side note, isn’t rubber an environmental no-no? Read the full article here.

Ruffle me

Dress Image

Dress Image

I saw this image by Amy Dickerson on Frolic (originally from Party Perfect) and couldn’t fully appreciate it until I clicked on it to view the larger version. Oh how I love those ruffles. I had ruffles on my wedding dress and they were the best feature (dress created by my mom, based on a Romona Keveza design). See below.

Thank goodness I didn’t see this dress last year because I might have changed my mind!

Debate On!

candidate caricatures

candidate caricatures

The Presidential debate is on! John McCain has agreed to debate Barack Obama and I hope it’s a good one. Looking to infuse some humor? Throw a party for debate night and give each of your guests a Lingo card a fun play on the old BINGO game using terms that might possibly be spoken by the candidates. Bob Staake, an illustrator created the fun game and these cards can be downloaded from his website.

Worried that the game won’t last long? Don’t fret…there are two sets!!! Visit the illustrator’s website to download both sets! First seen on Drawn.

NYC Design Events

8 days a week calendar

8 days a week calendar

Not many design events happen in southeast Pennsylvania, and with a small drive I’m able to attend events in New York City in three hours. So I’m glad to have found a calendar called New York City Design Events on 8daysaweek.org by Mike Williams.

for those who work, think and dream design 8 days a week

A great resource for all (or most) of the design happenings in the city. What a great way to stay up to date! The only thing missing is an RSS feed that could list all the events in a snap. Just a suggestion, but love it either way!

The rates for accommodations aren’t bad!!! Take advantage of this one!

So who’s to take credit for such a lovely hotel? India Mahdavi is responsible for the interiors and Javier Sanchez is to blame (in a good way) for the architecture. Nice job!
